About this project
This project delves into the pre-production phase of game development, focusing on the creation of a comprehensive Level Design Document (LDD). While the project did not progress beyond the ideation stage, it provided a valuable opportunity to demonstrate my understanding of the level design process. The LDD I crafted included in-depth research and references to illustrate my ideas, clearly defined game metrics and missions, and detailed maps and diagrams. This comprehensive document served as a strong foundation for the game's potential future development.
Game Narrative
In the cyberpunk underwater world of CyberFin Chronicles, a goldfish named Fin awoke in a cracked fish tank prison, his memories fragmented. Arrested and betrayed, he peered out at a boss statue, triggering glimpses of a dark past. In the holographic library, with the help of Mech-shark Byte, Fin uncovered crucial weapon blueprints and regained his lost memories.
References
To effectively communicate my ideas about the game's intended atmosphere, gameplay, etc., I collected some reference images.
Diagrams and Sketch
I had made some diagrams and sketch, which helped me illustrate my ideas clearly for building the level later.
Metrics
Defined the metrics for the different characters and objects present in the level. By defining the character metrics, it was easier to build the other objects based on the character's dimensions.
Maps
By using the metrics which were defined, I made the maps for the main floor, ground floor and the underground floor respectively.
Mission Map
Once the maps for each floor was designed, I then used them to define the missions/gameplay beats onto the map.
